To maintain expected data logger quality and prevent costly data loss, we recommend keeping them in good condition and regularly replacing your batteries.
Currently, you may be using the battery in your data loggers for as long as you can. You may run it through different cycles, and this drains the battery without a way to really know how much battery life is left. The issue with this is that with lower life, the battery is more likely to die during the monitoring process, and this results in lost data acquisition. Other potential complications that could arise if the battery were to reach 0%: erratic functionality and operation, the logger not communicating and appearing as a failure, or even complete loss of functionality. In some cases, the battery has reached 0%, so the logger is failing to communicate and this may lead you to believe that the logger is broken and needs to be sent in for repairs. However, in most of these cases, replacing the dead battery will fix the issues that you are having.
Before sending a data logger off to be repaired, please check and replace the battery. Replacing the battery before sending the data logger in for repair saves time and expenses associated with the monitoring process. With DataTrace Pro, we offer a tool to help monitor your data logger battery life. With the Battery Percentage Indicator in DataTrace Pro, the user can see what battery percentage is left any time the reads the logger or programs it. The user will see an approximation of how much life is left, but please keep in mind this is not an actual measurement. For the best results, we strongly recommend replacing the battery early on rather than waiting for the battery life to reach 0%. If you are planning to put a data logger through a cycle, the battery should be replaced between 10-20% ideally, and no later than 5%. By replacing the battery per these recommendations, you do not lose invaluable data and you can always collect without seeing the logger as false or malfunctioned.
In continuing efforts to enhance the user experience and provide user-focused solutions, Mesa is now offering batteries at lower, reduced rates. Please contact a representative today to discuss your upcoming battery replacement.
